Artist’s Statement

My goal as an artist is to create images which remind the viewer of the beauty and serenity of the natural world.  Animals are a favorite subject – especially capturing the personality of a pet, a loved member of the family.  Gardens are another favorite subject; I like to show the viewer a more intimate view of the garden, perhaps one that wouldn’t be noticed by most people.  Watercolor is my medium of choice as I enjoy the fresh clean colors that result from building layers of transparent color.  

From grade school through high school I enjoyed drawing as a hobby.  In high school I discovered a talent for mathematics which led me to earn a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech.  After college I continued to pursue art as a hobby by studying with local artists in the Hickory area.  My hobby continued to grow into a small business.   I routinely accept commissions to paint watercolors of pets.   

I am a member of the Foothills Painters Guild, have exhibited in many galleries in central and western North Carolina, and compete in local and state competitions.  I am a member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society.  In 2006 I realized a life-long dream when I participated in a plein-air workshop in Tuscany , near Florence, Italy.

I continue to work full time as the Quality Manager at US Conec in Hickory, NC.  I live with my husband and pets in Conover.
